Are You a Slave or a Master?

Recently, I've been studying the importance of unity within the church, in a marriage, in parenting, and in work relationships. Ephesians 6 discusses unity between a slave and a master, not specifically an employee or an employer. However, I often feel that as an employee sometimes we get caught up in the mindset of a slave. We forget why we are working. Who we are working for, or the impact of what we are doing. I feed the elderly, those that are not able to do so on their own. I wash dishes. I wait on tables and clean them. I do the things that no one likes to do. In fact, sometimes, I don't like doing it either. But, I was convicted this morning as I was reading this:
"Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free. And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him" (Ephesians 6:5-9, NIV).

Maybe you're tired of doing the same thing every single day. Maybe you love doing what you do. Or maybe somedays, you walk the line. I encourage you, whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31). Employees, serve your employers out of respect, fear, and a sincerity of heart so that they may see the love of Christ within you, regardless of how you are feeling that day.

Choose to lead, not be led, no matter what position you have.

Most importantly, remind yourself of the impact you are making, even if you work behind the scenes in the dish room.
